MaryJane Anuqsraaq Melovidov

Anuqsraaq (Inupiaq word for “Little Wind”) was born in Kotzebue, Alaska where her grandmother did an ancient Inuit blessing ceremony. From that blessing, Anuqsraaq is a Traditional Healer, Artist & Poet. Her father, a Texan, named her after his younger sister. Her father is descendant from Sir Richard Steele of Ireland. MaryJane teaches GED for Kawerak, Inc. in Nome, Alaska located at the North West Community College. She received a double BA from Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington in Ethnic Arts & Culture and Education. She received her Masters in English from Bread Loaf School of English, Middlebury, Vermont.

MaryJane enrolled into the Baha’i Faith July 1, 1975, its teachings were identical to her grandmother’s Inupiaq teachings that all life is sacred. She has traveled to Estonia, Latvia, Switzerland, Greenland, Canada for the faith. MaryJane is gifted as a healer. When the Spirit World wants her to work on a person, she can feel that individual’s pain. Her Inupiat grandmother trained her as a toddler. Both of her Inuit grandparents were descendants of Shamans who were known as Healers and Dreamers.
